Maybe it was apparent when I was three or four-years-old, constantly writing on the sofa cushions and walls. Maybe it started when I was seven and got in trouble for saying a 'wordy dirt'; my punishment: reading and copying pages from the dictionary. (I loved it.) Maybe my poet self got a jump start during weekly visits to the library and bookmobile. However it started, years of reading and studying and writing, writing, writing have shaped my poet path. I'm glad to still be walking it! I've been published in some fantastic places, featured at prestigious readings, and taught literature, creative writing, and arts education in nifty "reckon she's smart spots," but for me, success still comes one poem draft at a time.
